The President’s Message

Howie Krizer has donated numerous books to the Round Table for the raffle, and they are greatly appreciated. Make sure that you buy your raffle tickets at the May meeting.

Actor and historian, Patrick Falci, has graciously accepted our invitation to speak at the March, 2017 meeting. He gave a fantastic program and we look forward to his next presentation.

Thank you to everyone who has paid their dues. They are vitally important and keep the Round Table viable. Well done!

May 11, 2016 Program:

Robert Schuldenfrei will be our next speaker.  His topic will be: Sherman at Shiloh.  Mr.  Schuldenfrei has presented a number Civil War talks over the last few years.  This presentation is a study in psychology and is not quite what the title suggests.  It is an attempt explain the character traits possessed by William Tecumseh Sherman from early child-hood until the battle of Shiloh.  It was these changing traits that made Sherman the first modern general.  In order to tell this story we need to trace Sherman’s background as it relates to his mindset.  This means his childhood, and incidents before Shiloh.  The discussion will only then zoom in on the battle and its aftermath.

April 13, 2016 Program:

Teaching to the Test - Presenting the War of Rebellion to the Public was the topic of Ben Salata.  He is the Curator of Collections for the Historical Society of Palm Beach County.  The talk was an interesting study on how to construct historical exhibits.  Ben explained that his target audience is your average ten year old.  It is highly visual with hardly any written words.  He used as his example the current exhibit titled By Land and Sea: Florida in the Civil War.  That display focuses on three area of the war: Naval, agricultural, and daily life at war.  Because the Historical Society has very little items in its collections and is short on funds, the organizations depends on donations.  Very often they use copies of photographs to populate the displays.
